On February 27, 2019, the Canadian government announced major updates to its space strategy. It was not updated for the past 25 years. Canada will join the United States and other countries in order to build the Lunar Gateway, a Scientific Station that will orbit the moon. Canada announced a $2 billion investment over a 24 year commitment with $150 million over the next five years. This investment will create hundreds of well-paying jobs and contribute $100 million annually to Canada’s gross domestic product.
The Lunar gateway is the next step towards going to Mars.
Canada can contribute, for instance, by developing the technology necessary, so we can live in space.
On February 28, 2019, Prime minister Justin Trudeau, Ministers Marc Garneau and Navdeep Bains and astronauts Jeremy Hansen and Jennifer Sidey discussed the project with students in a school and online. They invited everyone to participate.
The project not only affect our exploration of space but the discoveries affect our life here on Earth.
