How many types of patterns can you make?

We will be starting of a project.  I will be using the Reading Rainbow background music to create a video of the students’ work after I have received permission from the parents.  Here’s my title page.

Each group of children will show me a different pattern.  To make the project more interesting, each will have a line from the Reading Rainbow song so we can make a class book of our patterns.  Some students know how to code well while others are just starting.  We should have a wide variety of patterns.  The simplest programs can be like this.  It consist only of multiple texts created with the Emoji keyboard.

This second pattern was made with the Emoji characters and an ability already made: make a triangle.  I modified the ability for visibility purposes I changed the color, width , the length of the triangle and made the octopus invisible.

Sound poem – L’Amérique

iMovie allows students to create all kind of movies.  In this case, a poem was created using Hopscotch and was attuned to a song by Joe Dassin.  Karaoke of L’Amérique from Joe Dassin.  The music was recorded from Youtube.

In addition to creating a French poem, using mathematics concepts to code using Hopscotch, students need to understand sound waves in order to adjust the timing of the poem to the music.

Moving Robot

Monkey safari

From this series of books, we can code many educational games using Hopscotch.  The books were made following the BBC series Planete Terre.  There are several books about different animals and their habitats.  This is program is about monkeys.

The jeep can drive forward and backward. The program is such that when the Jeep comes across each monkey, it says something different about its habitat and what it does.  Even the tiger has something to say when it encounters a monkey.

In this inspiring talk from a prison warden, we can give a different future to prisoners by inspiring them to do meaningful work.  I would argue as a teacher that we can inspire children to do meaningful work in school so they do not end up in prison.
