Hibiscus – a healing delicacy

Because I bicycle, I tend to drink copious amounts of water.  Several bottles of water per day, usually.  It is healthy.  It keeps my digestion in check.  I drink less water though when the weather is cold.  I was reminded of that when I went to the dentist and the dental assistant took my blood pressure.  My blood pressure was high.  I was surprised.  It was a good reminder that I need to keep my good habits of drinking water.  I increased my water intake and my blood pressure came back to normal, even a bit lower than when I last checked.

Water can taste better by adding some delicacy to it.   I thought I’d mention the hibiscus tea that I am currently drinking.  Some people add sugar, but I take it with no sugar.  It has healing properties.  It can help to protect cells from damage.  It may help to lower blood pressure.  It improves cholesterol levels.  It aids in weight loss.  It has anti-inflammatory effects.  It supports gut health.  It enhances immune function.  It is a delicacy I like to add to my diet.

Note that Claude says to consult with your doctor before drinking it as it may interfere with medication.

Aahh, it is just publicity

Yesterday, I did 76 km on my bicycle.  It definitely felt like summer after the -16C temperature of last week.  The GTA has a 50 km safe trail maintained in winter along lake Ontario.  It is just amazing to see, in all seasons.  I passed by the CN tower, stopped at sugar beach and went all the way to The Beaches.

When I came back, my son asked me to call my dentist, as it has been a while since I went to the dentist.  I wondered why today?  Is it because I stopped at sugar beach and he made a connection and it reminded him of dentists? Is it because I stopped at Tim Horton on the way?  By the way, I did not order donuts nor coffee.  I ordered an egg sandwich.  It’s healthy.

But then, this morning, this link came up.  Must be publicity, since this link mentions eating donuts, once in a while is fine.

It is interesting.   Dr Seyfried’s work on which food makes cancer worse and the interesting fact that glucose is a main food that cancer cells feeds on.  The Mediterranean diet seems to be the best diet.

I asked Claude, Gemini, and ChatGPT about what foods cancer cells feed on.  Claude says that cancer cells primarily feed on glucose for energy.  ChatGPT said the same thing but mentioned the Warburg effect, the preferential use of glycosis by cancer cells.  Gemini mentioned that cancer cells feed primarily on glucose, and also on amino acids, and fatty acids.  I found the difference in their answer interesting.  Claude’s answer was short and to the point, perfect for primary school children.  ChatGPT mentioned Warburg.  Interesting choice of words since OpenAI is currently having lawsuits from the Canadian government.  Gemini provided the same information made sure to include amino acids, the building blocks of proteins.  It is also an interesting addition since the CEO of Google DeepMind, Demis Hassabis, won the Nobel Prize recently for his work on AI AlphaFold.   Publicity must be involved in the choice of answer.

I thought I would share what I am eating today.  It takes 2 minutes to prepare and it seems to be totally healthy, according to the best current research.  Breakfast, lunch and dinner.

No worries.  I try to have the best possible diet.
