Students can create a survey to count other student’s choice.  The program collects vote in a variable.  Upon pressing for results the vote count is displayed in a bar graph.  The type of food the dinosaur eats needs to be pressed.

We can use the CIA factbook to doublecheck the news.  The average population of Gaza is 17 while the median is 18 years of age. One quarter of a million of the population is younger than 10 years old, yet  bombs are sent into the city.  In Canada, the median age of the population is 42 years of age.

La planète blanche

La planète blanche is a wonderful documentary about life in the arctic.  With students, teachers can select a part they want to highlight.

In this program, the stars are made to tinkle.  The moon slowly rise from behind the mountain going to the left.  Two science facts are discovered through reading and expressed with picture.  The bears are from the same icon but two different sizes for mama bear and cubs.

This is a dynamic program that works with sound and touch.  It starts with a green light.  If the ambiant noise gets loud, the light turns red.  When touching the ipad, the light gets reset to green.  A nice way to study sound or familiarize students with noise level in the classroom.

Venus fly trap

Hopscotch is free but it does sell additional tools to be coded like the venus fly trap and the fly.  They work like the other characters but they look different.  The animation on the fly and venus fly trap is interesting and dynamic.  Emoji pictures cannot be animated.  In this dynamic program, the venus flytrap is coded in such a way that it behaves naturally.  It knows the difference between a raindrop falling on it and a fly going nearby.  The venus flytrap eats a fly when it passes upon it and let the water drop fall.    Every venus flytrap is programmed to recognize the 2 flies and each fly is programmed to be eaten by each venus flytrap.  The water just falls down while one of the cloud moves from left to right.

The idea came from a Chicago museum.
